Each fall the MCC United Nations Liaison Office conducts a seminar for approximately 40 students from Anabaptist colleges, universities, and seminaries in the United States and Canada. The seminar focuses on an item on the UN agenda that is of pressing concern for MCC and the communities with whom it works. Its purpose is to engage and educate MCC's constituency about the relief, development and peace building challenges that MCC addresses by offering students first hand exposure to the people who make and inform policy at the UN headquaters in New York.

This year's seminar, to be held on November 4-6, 2010, will deal with the theme "Digging Deeper; Exploring Mining Justice Through the Lens of Peacebuilding and Faith." Participants will explore the challenges of mining companies concerning human rights, the envrionment and peacebuilding while also being encouraged to reflected on the opportunities of people of faith to respond to these dilemmas. Featured speakers will inlcude peacebuilders from Congo, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe.

Registration forms and more information about the seminar are available from Kayon Watson at the MCC UN office. The registration deadline is October 1.

I will help coordinate participants travelling down from Ontario.  If you have any questions feel free to be in touch...allanrm@mennonitecc.on.ca.
